4. Can I mix 10base and 100base network
cards on the same network and how will this affect my network?
Most 100base cards are 10/100 which means
that they can switch between 10 and 100base and the switching
is normally automatic.
If you have a thin ethernet network then this only supports
10base so the cards will run as 10base cards with the 100base
effectively unused.
If you have a 10base Hub on a Cat5 network then the same applies
in that the network will always run at 10base
If You have a 100base (only) hub then you must use 100base
network cards only
If you have a 10/100 switching hub then you can mix network
speeds but you will only get 100base performance when you
are communicating between 2 computers both of which have 100base
cards.
