Windows 95/98/ME
7. What is DOS compatability
mode?
If Windows '95 or '98 cannot
determine the correct type of CD-ROM drive you have, or
if you have DOS CD-ROM drivers loading when you boot your
computer, then Windows may run your CD-ROM drive in MS-DOS
compatibility mode. This is a kind of "SAFE" mode
that will not work with games that require 32-bit access
to your drive.
To find out if your system
is running in this mode, just follow these steps:
Right-click on the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop
Left-click on the Performance tab
If you see a message in this window that reads "Some
or all drives may be running in MS-DOS Compatibility mode",
click on the Device Manager tab and look for a CD-ROM listing
If it's not there, then your drive is in MS-DOS compatibility
mode.
If your drive is in this mode,
then you will need to contact your computer manufacturer
for help. Tell them that you need to enable 32 bit drivers
for your CD-ROM drive.
If your drive doesn't seem
to be in this mode, try this:
Click the button labeled File
System Properties.
Click the Troubleshooting tab.
If any of the boxes are checked, click on them to remove
the check mark, and then click on OK.
Click OK again to close the System Properties window
Try installing the program again.
